My very soul aches after listening to this song — which means I’ll be listening to it for a very, very long time. Can’t wait to hear a full-length from Birdseye.
— Jordy Kasko, The Tune

PIGEONS & PLANES

"Birdseye are an indie folk duo from Oakland who got in touch with this gentle and intimate track, which has flourishes of Bon Iver-esque falsetto allied with haunting acoustic guitar, over a backdrop of falling rain. This is that stare balefully out of the window and mope music. This is that long journey away from your loved one as the rain pours down in torrents music. This is that…well you get the idea I guess. There is also a video for the band’s other release “For You, Love Me,” which you can check out below, and also download from their Soundcloud."

- Pigeons & Planes, 2012

Imagine a folkier version of Low or if Bon Iver featured a female vocalist with a voice that was simultaneously pure and weary...Sad, stripped down and haunting.”

HEROES OF INDIE

"Emotive singing and beautifully haunted music makes the songs of “Birdseye” a surprising and welcome gift. This Oakland, Ca band conjures up memories of Great Lake Swimmerswith similar expanses of water beckoning to be crossed...

...Wade into the deep, dark, yet delicate waters of Birdseye and push yourselffrom the shore’s safety to float downstream to a place of hope and new found wonder."

17 SECONDS BLOG

"Sometimes, the music is all you need.

The sheer weight of submissions that I receive means that there are plenty of acts who just don’t get listened to. Fortunately, I’m one of many bloggers, and fortunately me not getting to listen to a band does not stop anyone getting heard.

But every so often a band manage to catch my eye, and then ear. So it is for indie-folk band, Birdseye. Hailing from Oakland, California, the two songs on their soundcloud are the aesthetic equivalent of being moreish. Sad, stripped down, and haunting.

I don’t know much about them – thankfully there wasn’t some OTT press release to have to wade through, spouting crap. Just a simple and staright, polite request to listen to their submissions.

So I did, and I’m so glad I did. You should, too. Imagine a folkier version of Low or if Bon Iver featured a female vocalist with a voice that was simultaneously pure and weary."

Birdseye, an Indie folk band dwelling in Los Angeles, California was born when Swan Palermo and David Peter Mellish met in the Spring of 2010. Their muses alight, the first song began almost immediately, soon expanding to dozens, rich with harmonies and layered arrangement.

Birdseye brings something new to the world of male/female duos and a particular potency of each of the two leads that is quite apparent, however, they have been compared with artists such as Bon Iver, Lisa Hannigan, Ricki Lee Jones, Beth Gibbons, Low, and Katie Moore with Patrick Watson.

After a year and a half in the studio working with a talented team at the helm:  Ethan Allen (Kingsway Studios, BRMC, Sleepy Sun), Jim Watts (Emmylou Harris, The 88) and Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, AA Bondy, Beck), Birdseye has completed a full-length and EP to be expected in early 2017.
